The method involves connecting a car to an electrical network with an electrical cable (30), and positioning the electrical cable in a detection position, where electric charging of the car is started by passing a charge current in the electrical cable. The presence of electrical cable in the detection position is detected by a current sensor (10a) of the car, and the temperature of the electrical cable in the detection position is measured by a temperature sensor (10b) of the car. The charge current is limited if the electrical cable is not detected in the detection position. An independent claim is also included for a vehicle.
