PURPOSE: A naphthylphenyl derivative and an organic electroluminescent device using the same as a charge injection layer, a charge transport layer, a phosphorescent host, or a light emitting layer are provided to be easily applied for deposition and a solution process, and to ensure energy transfer property and compatibility. CONSTITUTION: A naphthylphenyl derivative is denoted by chemical formula 1. An organic electroluminescent device contains one or more organic layers between a pair of electrodes. The organic layer contains the naphthyl phenyl derivative. The organic layer includes a light emitting layer, a charge injection layer, a charge transport layer, and a hole transport layer and contains the naphthyl phenyl derivative. The organic layer is a light emitting layer. The light emitting layer contains the naphthyl phenyl derivative and further contains a phosphorescent dopant.
