A liquid crystal display device and a manufacturing method thereof. The liquid crystal display device comprises: a liquid crystal panel (4) and a chip on film (12) disposed on an edge of the liquid crystal panel (4). A conductive layer (7) for leaking static electricity in the liquid crystal panel (4) to the outside is disposed between the liquid crystal panel (4) and the chip on film (12). The conductive layer (7) is used to release the static electricity on the liquid crystal panel (4), so that the liquid crystal display device can use a cheap non-metallic material as the structural material of a frame (3), thereby reducing the production costs of the liquid crystal display device.
