<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device and a vehicle head light unit using the same capable of reducing a size of a start assisting circuit while increasing a starting performance. <P>SOLUTION: The discharge lamp lighting device includes: a primary side closed circuit which includes a DC power supply 1, a primary winding 211 and a switching element 22; and a secondary closed circuit which includes a secondary winding 212, diodes 231 and 232 and a smoothing capacitor 24. The discharge lamp lighting device further includes: a DC-DC conversion circuit 2 for generating an output voltage Vo on both ends of the smoothing capacitor 24; an inverter circuit 3; an ignitor circuit 4; and a start assisting circuit 7 that supplies a discharge power from a capacitor 71 to a discharge lamp 5. The capacitor 71 is charged with a voltage generated on a first secondary winding 212a. The polarity of a discharge current flowing from the capacitor 71 to a second secondary winding 212b is identical to the polarity of a current flowing on the second secondary winding 212b due to switching control of the switching element 22. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
