The mobile communication device (1) has a processor (10) that is configured to generate a baseband signal in a digital form and generating a gain control signal. A transceiver circuit (14) is coupled to a processor, where the transceiver circuit is configured to convert the baseband signal from a digital form to an analog form and to amplify the converted baseband signal to transmit a transmission signal to one of the multiple power gain levels. An amplifier circuit (16) is coupled to the transceiver circuit, where the amplifier circuit is configured to amplify a transmission signal on one of the other multiple power gain levels for transmitting another transmission signal to an antenna (18) for transmission. An independent claim is included for a method for providing a gain control by a mobile communication device.
