<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device having excellent viewing angle characteristics, particularly, a TN type liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes at least first and second polarizing layers arranged to have absorption axes orthogonal to each other, a first optical compensation film disposed between the first polarizing layer and a liquid crystal cell, and a second optical compensation film disposed between the second polarizing layer and the liquid crystal cell. In the first optical compensation film, in-plane retardation Re1(550) at a wavelength of 550 nm and a ratio of retardation R[+40] measured in a direction inclined at 40 degrees relative to the normal direction to retardation R[-40] measured in a direction inversely inclined at 40 degrees from the normal direction satisfy predetermined conditions. In the second optical compensation film, in-plane retardation Re2(550) at a wavelength of 550 nm and retardation Rth2(550) in a thickness direction satisfy predetermined conditions. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
