<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a user-friendly refrigerator, in which the freshness-preserving property is improved while the energy saving property is increased. <P>SOLUTION: The refrigerator includes a storage volume estimation unit 23 for estimating a storage volume in the storage compartment, a memory unit 64 for storing the estimation result of the storage volume estimation unit 23, and a calculation control unit 22 for calculating a storage change volume based on the previous estimation result stored in the memory unit 64 and the estimation result of the storage volume estimation unit 23, and controlling the output operation of an electric function component. The calculation controller 22 reports the running state of the refrigerator when the calculation controller determines that the storage volume of the storage compartment has changed, thus enabling the running state of the refrigerator corresponding to the storage volume change to be notified to a user.
