<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator and a smoke preventive method of the elevator for making smoke hardly flow in a hoistway even at getting-on/off. <P>SOLUTION: The elevator includes a cage, a weight, a rope for lifting the cage and the weight, a hoisting machine for hoisting the rope, the hoistway for lifting the cage, a landing hall side door and a fan for generating an air curtain for cutting off the smoke generated on the landing hall side in an entrance of the cage, and also includes a control part for controlling the driving of the fan.
