METHOD, APPARATUS AND COMPUTER PROGRAM FOR ESTABLISHING AN EMERGENCY SERVICE

A user equipment UE (20) with an active connection (radio or logical) (202) with a wireless network (30,40) needs to establish an emergency service (204). The UE (20) unilaterally deactivates (206) an active session or context with the wireless network (30,40), and thereafter sends to the wireless network signalling (210) to establish the emergency service, in which the signalling specifically identifies the service as an emergency service. In one embodiment, the UE locally detaches from an active packet domain communication and sends an emergency attach so as to clear resources. In another embodiment, the UE (20) deactivates (206) one or more contexts and sends an extended service request (208) which identifies one or more contexts which remain active after the deactivating. In another embodiment, after the signalling to establish the emergency service, the UE sends a deactivation message explicitly indicating which context(s) is/are deactivated.
