The drive train (1) has a drive shaft (6) driven by two electrical machines (2, 3). A non-switchable transmission (7) is provided between the drive shaft and a wheel of an electric vehicle. One of the electrical machines (2) is designed for a high maximum rotational torque, and a small maximum rotation speed relative to the other electrical machine (3). The electrical machines are coupled by a freewheel (4). The former electrical machine is arranged in a power flow before the freewheel. The freewheel is arranged in the power flow before the latter electrical machine. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a drive train.
