<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods and composition for treatment of vaginal diseases employing peroxide-producing enzymes and peroxidases. <P>SOLUTION: A therapeutic composition for vaginal administration based on the generation of a biocidal anion by an enzymatic reaction catalyzed by a peroxidase is provided. The peroxide utilized by the peroxidase enzyme can be endogenous or can be generated by the action of an oxidase enzyme on a suitable substrate.
