<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that keeps a control amount error within an allowable range even if light-emission characteristics of a laser changes because of ambient temperature or passage of time. <P>SOLUTION: According to the present invention, a first patch is formed with a light amount obtained by reducing a target light amount of a light amount control unit 601 by a predetermined rate, and a second patch is formed with a light amount obtained by reducing a target light amount by a predetermined rate by a shading control unit 609.
