The present invention relates to an illuminating glazing unit, preferably an illuminating glazing unit for a vehicle, comprising: a first sheet (1), made of mineral or organic glass, with a first main face (11), a second main face (12), and an edge face (13); at least one waveguide (2) with -at least one first end face (21) where light enters, -at least one second end face (22) where light exits, facing the edge face (13) of the first sheet (1), -a first main guiding face (23), -a second main guiding face (24), and -a face (25) for bending light, connecting the second main guiding face (24) to the second end face (22) where light exits, and designed so as to change the main direction of propagation of the light by an angle at least equal to 90°; and one or more light sources (3) each comprising an emitting face (31) facing the end face (21) where light enters; one or more elements for extracting light (37); and at least one encapsulating element (6).
