The driver assistance system has a detecting unit (2) for detecting an environment of the motor car (1). A driver (F) specifies several objects (4,4') around the environment of the motor car using an user interface (3). The functions of the driver assistance system are executed as a function for the objects in the environment specified by the driver. The user interface is provided with a display having a touch-sensitive display area for specifying objects.
