Class 73 [Also in Groups XVI and XXXV] In a machine for winding electrical coils from ribbons of conductive material (see Group XVI), rolls 180, 148, Fig. 7, of adhesive tape are positioned on either side of the path of foil F, the roll 180 being mounted between plates 103 and the roll 148 between plates 128. The plates 103 receive a tube 106 secured to links, not shown, pivotally mounted on rod 56, the tube 106 being connected by flexible tubes 206 to a tube 100 having perforations 201 and to a vacuum pump, not shown. The ends of the tube 106 are closed by bolts 111 (Fig. 1, not shown) carrying studs 113 engaging the cam surface 34, Fig. 3. Thus, pivotal movement of a carriage 32, Fig. 7, causes upward and downward movement of the tube 106 according to the shape of the cam 34. A tube 126 having perforations 176, is mounted in the plates 128 also pivotally mounted on the rod 56. The tube 126, also connected to the vacuum pump, not shown, is closed by bolts 139 (Fig. 1, not shown) carrying studs 140 engaging cam grooves 38, Fig. 3. A winding spindle 26, Fig. 7, and cores C are inserted in the machine with the carriage in its rear starting position as indicated by the stud positions 113a, 140a of the studs 113, 140 in Fig. 3. The carriage is then pivoted forwards so that the studs reach positions 113b, 140b. The foil F, Fig. 7, and an insulation strip I are then attached to the core C and the spindle 26 is driven to wind a coil on the core C. When the coil is complete the carriage 32 is pivoted rearwardly, such that the tube 100 presses tape T 1 , held by suction thereto, into contact with the wound coil (stud positions 113c, 140c, Fig. 3). Blades 210, 214 sever the strip I. The spindle 26 is then rotated manually through 270 degrees to wind a partial turn of insulating tape T 1 having a pressure sensitive adhesive on one surface around the wound coil I, Fig. 12. The carriage 32 is moved rearwardly to correspond to stud positions 113a, 140a, Fig. 3, and a second insulating tape T 2 , Fig. 7, is applied by tube 126 held by suction thereto, to the coil 1 and then wrapped around 90 degrees of the periphery by manually rotating the spindle 26. Blades 218, 220 cut the foil F during this movement of the carriage 32. Knife 228 is then swung downwardly and tape T 1 is drawn past the knife by rotating spindle 26, thereby cutting the tape. Tape T 2 is then cut manually and the completed coil is removed after swinging the carriage 32 into starting position.</p>
