MONOLITHIC COMPOSITION

A paste-like monolithic composition which contains a solvent, an inorganic binder, and inorganic fibers having the following composition and not covered with a coating layer, and which may contain an inorganic powder. The composition of the inorganic fiber contains 66 to 82 weight% of SiO2, 10 to 34 weight% of CaO, 3 weight% or less of MgO, 5 weight% or less of Al2O3, and a total of 98 weight% or more of SiO2, CaO, MgO, and Al2O3. The proportion between the inorganic fibers and the inorganic powder is between 100:0 and 10:90 (inorganic fiber:inorganic powder). The paste-like monolithic composition does not contain a pH regulating agent and organic fibers, and the inorganic powder does not contain a needle-like crystalline structure when the monolithic composition contains the inorganic powder.
