A backlight module, including a back panel (5) and a light guide plate (3). An edge of the light guide plate (3) is provided with a boss. The boss is provided thereon with a locating hole (32). The back panel (5) is provided thereon with a rivet (31) mating with the locating hole (32). There is a buffer structure (33) between the rivet (31) and the hole wall of the locating hole (32). Also disclosed is a liquid crystal display. By way of providing a boss at an edge of the light guide plate (3) and providing the locating hole (32) on the boss, the setting of the locating hole (32) will not affect the light guide area of the light guide plate (3), and at the same time a layer of buffer structure (33) is provided between the locating hole (32) and the rivet (31), which avoids breakage of a portion of the locating hole (32) where the stress is concentrated during impact. At the same time, the buffer structure can avoid breakage of the light guide plate (3) due to extrusion when expanding due to being heated and avoid the light guide plate (3) swinging and impacting when contracted due to cooling.
