The device (17) has first and second bearing bushes attached at side walls (13, 14) of a muffle (3) and formed for retaining holding elements (15, 16). The first bearing bush has a front part extending into a cooking space (2) of a cooking device (1) and comprising a receiving area i.e. hole, for a first portion of the holding elements. The receiving area is designed so that the first portion is arranged in cooking space-side only in an accommodated state. The receiving area extends over whole length of the front part. An independent claim is also included for a method for assembly of a holding element for a food carrier at a side wall of a muffle.
