The internal combustion engine has a cylinder crankcase, a variable compression and multiple connecting rods supported at a piston. The connecting rods are mounted on a crankshaft (1). An eccentric crankshaft bearing (6) is provided with a torsion-rigid connection (7) between the crankshaft bearings for transmitting an actuating movement. A gear is provided for adjusting a crankshaft position, where the gear has a worm gear segment (5) and a worm gear (8). The gear is arranged in an end area of the crank shaft. An independent claim is included for a method for assembling an internal combustion engine.
