This hair treatment agent composition contains components (A) to (D), has a mass ratio (A)/(B) of the amount contained of component (A) and the amount contained of component (B) of 0.05-2.0, and has a pH of 2.5-5.0. (A): a polyglycerol such that in the polyglycerol as a whole, the total amount contained (p) of glycerol trimers and glycerol tetramers, the amount contained (q) of glycerol dimers, and the total amount contained (r) of glycerol pentamers and higher order oligomers are such that the ratio q/p is less than 0.5 and r/p is less than 0.5. (B): an alkyl glyceryl ether or alkyl glyceryl ester having an HLB of 2-7. (C): an aromatic alcohol. (D): a cationic surfactant.
