<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image heating device which can maintain the original performance of a rubbing member high by preventing toner from moving from a heating member to the rubbing member and maintain the quality of an output image high by effectively eliminating gloss unevenness of the output image, even if the jamming of a recording material occurs. <P>SOLUTION: A refresh roller 55 is arranged detachably from and attachably to a fixing roller 51 and abuts on and is separated from the fixing roller 51 by a contact/separation mechanism 50. A control part 141 polishes the surface of the fixing roller 51 by abutting the refresh roller 55 against the fixing roller 51 at a rubbing time by every preset 100 sheets until winding-jamming of a recording material occurs.
