<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium of which a magnetic layer has an extremely smooth surface, having excellent record/reproduce characteristics and running characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: A magnetic recording medium of the present invention includes: a nonmagnetic support body; a nonmagnetic layer formed on one principal surface of the nonmagnetic support body, including a nonmagnetic powder, a binder, and a lubricant; and a magnetic layer formed on a principal surface opposite to that on the side of the nonmagnetic support body of the nonmagnetic layer, including a magnetic powder, a binder, and a lubricant. The magnetic powder is one kind selected from the group consisting of a hexagonal ferrite magnetic powder, a ferromagnetic metallic iron magnetic powder, and an iron nitride magnetic powder, and the average particle diameter thereof is 10 nm or more and 35 nm or less. The measurement of a spacing of a surface of the magnetic layer before and after cleansing of the lubricant with an n-hexane using a TSA (Tape Spacing Analyzer) shows that a value of the spacing after the cleansing is 3 to 10 nm, and a value of the spacing before the cleansing is less than that after the cleansing by 1 to 5 nm. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
