<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition capable of improving fuel efficiency, breaking strength and processability in a well-balanced manner, and to provide a pneumatic tire using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The rubber composition contains: a conjugated diene-based polymer obtained by reacting an active terminal of a copolymer, obtained by polymerizing a conjugated diene compound and a monomer component containing a silicon-containing vinyl compound using a polymerization initiator represented by formula (I), with a compound containing a nitrogen atom and/or a silicon atom; silica; and a silane coupling agent having a mercapto group, wherein the content of the conjugated diene-based polymer is 25-50 mass% in 100 mass% of a rubber component, the content of the silica relative to 100 pts.mass of the rubber component is 40-80 pts.mass, and the content of the silane coupling agent relative to 100 pts.mass of the silica is 1-20 pts.mass. In formula (I), i is 0 or 1; R<SP POS="POST">11</SP>represents a 1-100C hydrocarbylene group; R<SP POS="POST">12</SP>and R<SP POS="POST">13</SP>represent a hydrocarbyl group which may have a substituent or a trihydrocarbylsilyl group, or R<SP POS="POST">12</SP>and R<SP POS="POST">13</SP>together represent a hydrocarbylene group which may have, as a hetero atom, at least one atom selected from the group of atoms consisting of Si, N and O; and M represents an alkali metal atom. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
