A projection device and control method thereof, the projection device comprising at least two solid state light sources (101, 102), a synchronizing device (13) and a control device (14); the at least two solid state light sources (101, 102) are used to directly or indirectly generate at least two beams of primary color light having different colors and outputted alternately; the synchronizing device (13) is used to generate a synchronizing signal; the control device (14) is used to control the operating power of the at least two solid state light sources (101, 102) respectively in a pulse manner according to the synchronizing signal, so that in at least part of the time period, one of the at least two solid state light sources (101, 102) is in a normal working state, while the other is in an energy saving state.
