A batch dishwasher has a treatment chamber (2) for accommodating washware. In order to prevent moisture from being expelled from the treatment chamber (2) during a dring phase operation of the dishwasher (1), a drying system has a drying device for drawing moisture in a continuous manner or as required from the drying air which is circulating in the treatment chamber (2). The drying device includes a first and a second sorption unit (3, 4) in each case with a reversibly dehydratable dry material and fans (5, 6), which are associated with the sorption units (3, 4), for forming a first and second air circuit in such a way that a portion of the drying air which is circulating in the treatment chamber (2) is routed through the first or second sorption unit (3, 4).
