The method involves treating a surface (21) of an object i.e. cylinder (20) of hydraulic positive-displacement machine, for adjusting predetermined three-dimensional (3D) surface characteristics of the surface such that the object surface obtains a non-directional structure. The object surface is formed from metal and softer than a surface of another object i.e. piston (22) of hydraulic positive-displacement machine, such that the object surface is in frictional contact with the latter object. Tribological properties of the surface are optimized with a blasting grain (30). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a cylinder for an axial piston machine (2) an apparatus for processing an object.
