<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination apparatus performing visible light communication capable of reducing the cost and size while stabilizing circuit voltage. <P>SOLUTION: An illumination apparatus 10 includes: a light source 11 of an LED 2; a power supply section 3 that modulates the light source 11; a switch element Q1 that modulates the output current supplied from the power supply section 3 to the light source 11; a resistance Rx connected to the switch element Q1 in parallel therewith; a visible light communication signal circuit 7 that controls the switch element Q1 to turn on/off; and a control power supply section 8 for supplying the power thereto. At least one end of the input end of the control power supply section 8 is connected to one end of the resistance Rx. In this configuration, even when the switch element Q1 is off, the light source 11 is prevented from getting into a no-load state due to the resistance Rx. Accordingly, since the power source voltage of the power supply section 3 and the input voltage to the control power supply section 8 are stabilized, general purpose circuit parts may be used therefor.
