摘要 Provided is an optically isotropic liquid crystal composition which has stability with respect to heat, light and the like, and a high upper limit temperature and a low lower limit temperature of an optically isotropic liquid crystal phase, while achieving a low driving voltage and a high contrast ratio in an element which is driven in an optically isotropic liquid crystal phase. Also provided are: a polymer/liquid crystal composite material which has a high upper limit temperature and a low lower limit temperature of an optically isotropic liquid crystal phase, while achieving a low driving voltage and a high contrast ratio; and an optical element which uses the polymer/liquid crystal composite material. A liquid crystal composition which is characterized by containing: an achiral component (T) that contains, as a first component of the achiral component (T), 30-85% by weight of at least one compound which is selected from the group consisting of the compounds represented by formula (1); and a chiral agent. This liquid crystal composition is also characterized by expressing an optically isotropic liquid crystal phase. In formula (1), R1 represents, for example, an alkyl group; each of L1, L2, L3, L4, L5 and L6 independently represents a hydrogen atom or a fluorine atom; each of Z1 and Z2 independently represents a single bond or -CF2O-, provided that Z1 and/or Z2 is -CF2O-; and X1 represents, for example, a halogen atom.
