The present invention relates to system and method for increasing the automation of the configuration and maintenance of physical computers or virtual machines. The automation process is mostly used within the hosting service provider industry to optimize the productivity and efficiency of the deployment of a new configured host and to easily update or upgrade an existing host. A system in accordance with the present invention may comprise a virtualization layer and the related subcomponents within a physical computer in order to configure and update a physical or virtual computer.
