<p>An illumination device comprises: a transparent light guide body, further comprising a first primary face, a second primary face which is opposite from the first primary face, and four lateral end faces which connect the first primary face and the second primary face; a lens sheet which is stacked upon the light guide body, further comprising a transparent substrate, a first lens array disposed on one face of the substrate and extending in one direction, and a second lens array disposed on the face of the substrate and extending in a direction which intersects the first lens array; a plurality of light sources; and an optical deflection element formed on the first primary face which deflects light which is guided within the light guide body to the second primary face side. One of the four lateral end faces, or two opposing lateral end faces, are entry faces by which light which is emitted from the plurality of light sources enters. The plurality of light sources are positioned in parallel in the direction of the extension of the entry faces in locations which face the entry faces. The optical axis of the plurality of light sources approximately matches the normal of the entry faces. The proportion of the surface area to the lens sheet surface area of either the selected first lens array or second lens array is set in a range of 20%-50%. The direction of the extension of the lenses of the selected lens array is approximately orthogonal to the optical axis of the plurality of light sources.</p> |
