A combined opening and closing guide and locking means for a sliding, door assemblage 1, includes a guide plate 15 having an arcuate slot 17 fixed to a stationary part 3 of the door assemblage for limited pivotal, movement, engagement means 11, 12 fixed to the movable part of the door assemblage for co-operation with the slot 17 and a pivoted locking plate 21 resiliently mounted to effect locking of the engagement means 11 at the inner end of the slot, the arrangement being such that to effect disengagement of the engagement means 11 with the slot, rotation is imparted to the guide plate 15. As shown, and as applied to a refrigerator, in which the door assemblage is moved between open and closed positions by an electric motor (not shown), the door 2, is supported for sliding movement on the part 3 at each of its two upper corners by an antifriction bearing pad 5 carried by a bracket 4. The engagement means fixed to the movable part comprises a pair of rollers carried by a plate 9 adjustably fixed to the door and the arrangement is such that as the engagement means enter the arcuate position of the slot 17, as the door is moved to closed position, the door moves in a plane transverse to that of the door, the locking plate 21 having been moved by the engagement means 11, 12 about its pivot 20 on the plate 15 against a spring 18. When the door is required to be opened, the motor is run in the opposite sense to cause pivotal movement of the plate 15 about its pivot 16 and misalignment of the engagement means 11, 12, pivot 20 and pivot 16, this to allow the engagement means to move out of the slot 17. The electric motor drives through a belt 25 which engages an eccentric pulley 26 mounted on the bracket 4. |
