894,311. Spin-driers. LEWIS APPLIANCE CORPORATION Ltd. March 7, 1960 [April 23, 1959], No. 8025/60. Class 34(2) A spin drier, Figs. 1 and 2, comprises a basket 11 rotatable with a vertical shaft 13 passing through a hole 14 in the bottom of a stationary tub 12; a metal housing 16 for a shaft bearing 15; a watertight rubber diaphragm 19 connected between the top of the housing and the edge of the hole 14; and a deformable disc member connected between the lower part of the housing and the edge of the hole 14, the disc member comprising a rigid sleeve 28 having a flange 29 connected by nuts and bolts 30 to the tub floor and a rubber disc 17 provided with generally C-shaped overlapping spokes 32. The interstices 33, 34 between the spokes extend both radially and circumferentially and the walls 35 of the interstices 33 diverge upwardly. A collar 38 is fixed on the shaft and when the latter rotates the collar presses upwardly so as to cause the disc 17 to assume the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1. The disc 17 suppresses gyration of the shaft and its housing, the shaft at its lower end being carried in a bearing permitting rocking of the shaft end, in known means. A packing ring 36 and rubber grommet 37 are provided between the shaft 13 and its bearing housing 16. Specification 846,111 is referred to. |
