Disclosed are: a dye for an optical information recording medium, which can achieve highly sensitive and good recording properties when a short-wavelength laser (405nm) such as an organic BD-R is used; and an optical information recording medium comprising the dye. Specifically disclosed is an organic dye for an optical information recording medium, which is characterized by comprising a metal complex compound composed of an azo compound represented by chemical formula (I) and a least one metal ion selected from a nickel ion, a cobalt ion and a copper ion with which the azo compound is to be coordinated.
