<p>A cell structure formed by first cells 5a and second cells 5b in a outermost peripheral portion is different from a cell structure in a central portion. Specifically, third cells 5c are formed smaller than the first cells 5a in the central portion and disposed in the positions where the first cells 5a are disposed of the outer peripheral portion, and the second cells 5b and the third cells 5c are alternately disposed in the outermost peripheral portion. Since the second cells 5b and the third cells 5c are disposed in the outermost peripheral portion, inner peripheral faces 3s of outer walls 3 are linearly formed and formed into a quadrangular shape in a cross section cut along a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the cells. The outer walls 3 are formed to have a uniform thickness with almost no unevenness except for the corner portions. In a honeycomb segment of the present invention, a bonding width of a bonding material layer is constant upon bonding the honeycomb segments together to reduce a variance in pressure loss and in a thermal stress absorption effect by the bonding material and improve a crack inhibition effect against local thermal stress caused upon soot combustion.</p> |
