<p>Provided is an ESD protection device having stable characteristics that do not deteriorate even when static electricity is applied thereto repeatedly, and a method of manufacturing the ESD protection device. The ESD protection device is provided with: an opposing electrode (2) comprising a first-side opposing electrode (2a) and a second-side opposing electrode (2b) that are formed so as to be opposed to each other at the surface of a ceramic base material (1); and a discharge-assisting electrode (3) that is arranged so as to come in contact with both the first-side opposing electrode and the second-side opposing electrode, and to span across from the first-side opposing electrode to the second-side opposing electrode. The discharge-assisting electrode (3) comprises metal particles, semiconductor particles, and vitreous material, and the metal particles are conjoined with each other, the semiconductor particles are conjoined with each other, and the metal particles and the semiconductor particles are conjoined with each other with the vitreous material interposed therebetween. The average particle diameter (X) of the metal particles is configured to be 1.0 μm or more, and the relationship between the thickness (Y) of the discharge-assisting electrode and the average particle diameter (X) of the metal particles is configured to satisfy a requirement of 0.5 Y/X 3.</p> |
