An endless conveyer forming the grate in a furnace for the hardening of, for example, briquettes of ore, includes sections which are rigid in the transverse direction and which comprise closed chain links disposed side-byside in the plane of the conveyer and welded together at their side edges, these sections being coupled together by closed chain links lying in vertical planes. Additional grate sections not resistant to bending may be incorporated between the sections which are resistant to bending. Rigid sections 10 of the grate are formed of closed chain links 11 disposed side-by-side and connected together at their edges by welding seams 12. Additional grate sections 13 composed of similar closed chain links disposed side by side but not welded together are incorporated between the rigid sections 10 and are coupled to those sections by closed chain links 14 disposed in vertical planes. The outermost links of the sections 13 are welded to the inner links 8 of drive chains 7 disposed at both edges of the grate. |
