A device and a method for sensing load of a washing machine is provided to measure load of the washing machine accurately by controlling a motor using a dynamic brake and an excess brake at the same time, thereby capable of reducing vibration and noise of the washing machine. A method for sensing load of a washing machine comprises the steps: accelerating or uniformly driving a motor by using an inverter(S31); performing a dynamic brake by short-circuiting three terminals of the motor while uniformly driving the motor(S33); performing an excess brake by opening the three terminal of the motor after predetermined times(S37); and sensing load of the washing machine by analyzing the results of the dynamic brake or the excess brake(S38). |
