A wireless data service system in a mobile communication network and a method thereof are provided to manage radio resources efficiently by differently setting dormant time, which determines transition to a dormant state to release radio resources, for each communication terminal in consideration of each communication terminal's pattern of using a wireless data service. A wireless data service system in a mobile communication network is comprised of a billing server(700), a dormant timer server(600), and a radio packet processor(410). The billing server collects billing information for the use of packets which are generated as a communication terminal uses a wireless data service, and transmits the collected billing information to the dormant timer server. Based on the time of packet occurrence contained in the billing information, the dormant timer server calculates the dormant time of a radio session the communication uses. The radio packet processor connects a wireless data call for the communication terminal, inquires of the dormant timer server about the dormant time of the radio session of the communication terminal, and manages the radio session of the communication terminal according to the received dormant time. |
