A component 2 for a laser tool, comprising a tubular body 6 defining an internal channel 14 and an aperture 12; a diamond window 4 disposed across the aperture and bonded to the tubular body around the aperture, and wherein the tubular body 6 comprises a material having a coefficient of linear thermal expansion of 14 x 10^-6 per Kelvin or less at 20 degrees Celsius, and a thermal conductivity of 60 Watts per metre Kelvin or more at 20 degrees Celsius. A preferable material for the body may be molybdenum but others including chromium, tungsten, nickel, rhodium, ruthenium or silicon carbide may be used. The diamond may be polycrystalline, single crystal, CVD or HPHT diamond, or natural. The window 4 may be in a recess 10 in the side of the tube, and the laser beam may be transmitted by an optical fibre.
|
