The transport drum (10) has a rotationally drivable drive shaft (11) which is associated with the drum portion (16). The outer circumferential surface (M) of the drum portion comprises a retainer (21) with suction openings (35) for receiving and holding the rod-shaped articles under the pressure generated by the negative pressure supply (43). A control flange (13) is provided in the retainer. The drum portion is operatively connected to the drive shaft through the negative pressure supply. The control flange is supported on the drive shaft.
