The invention concerns an apparatus for downwardly extruding a sheet 51, of e.g. polyethylene, having attenuated edges 50 so that, as the sheet hangs from the nozzle 12 and lateral shrinkage takes place, the finished sheet has a uniform thickness. The nozzle 12 has an orifice 20 whose ends are completely blocked by adjustable slides 31 and wires 21 so that the material flows under the slides 31 to the extent of the wires 21. The slides 31 may have a lead, Figures 5 and 7, (not shown). Adjustable lips 17 are provided.
