A control apparatus and a method for controlling a motor are provided to prevent deterioration or damage of a PBA(Printed Board Assembly) by controlling an inverter unit to consume a current flowing to a DC link terminal toward a ground when counter electromotive force is generated from the motor. A control apparatus for a motor(140) includes an inverter unit(130), an inverter control circuit(150), and a control unit(160). The inverter unit applies a 3 phase voltage to the motor and includes high phase switches and low phase switches. The inverter control circuit controls the inverter unit to consume a current flowing to a DC link terminal toward a ground when counter electromotive force is generated from the motor. The control unit controls operation of the inverter unit and allows the inverter control circuit to control the inverter unit when the counter electromotive force is generated from the motor. |
