PURPOSE: A biofilm inhibitor is provided to suppress surface adhesion of pathogenic microorganisms, to inhibit biofilm formation, and to effectively treat inflammatory bowel diseases such as colitis. CONSTITUTION: A biofilm inhibitor contains one or more materials selected from a group consisting of aminoflavone, hydroxyflavone, chrysin, curcumin, daidzein, flavones, genistein, and phloretin. The pathogenic microorganisms are enteropathogenic Escherichia coli, enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, or Staphylococcus aureus. The pathogenic microorganisms cause inflammatory diseases. A method for suppressing biofilm formation comprises a step of treating an organism or abiotic surface with one or more materials selected from the group consisting of aminoflavone, hydroxyflavone, chrysene, curcumin, daidzein, flavone, genistein, and phloretin.
