[Class 40 (v)] [Also in Groups VI and XXXV] In an electro-therapeutic impulse generator, pulses are generated by blocking the current through the primary of a transformer whose output voltage may be varied by moving its core. The Figure shows an arrangement in which capacitor 24 is alternately charged through resistors 28, 26 and 25, and discharged through neon tube 29 in series with choke 30. The potential appearing at the junction of these two devices is applied to valve 36, so that impulses appear across the secondary of open core output transformer 12 which consists of two identical primary windings placed end to end and in series, a shorter coaxial secondary and a movable iron core. The windings are arranged so that the output voltage may be regulated without affecting the primary voltage. Capacitor 15 determines the shape of the output waveform, resistor 16 being provided to damp the circuit. The coarse output control switch 19 is ganged with on/off switch 7. |
