PURPOSE: A print system with a ribbon identifying function is provided to utilize a simple mechanical design, thereby providing a ribbon identifying mechanism at low costs. CONSTITUTION: A print system(50) with a ribbon identifying function comprises a casing(52), a ribbon shaft(54), a ribbon motor(60), a sensor(62), and a control unit(64). The ribbon shaft is installed inside the casing to be rotatable for transferring a ribbon(56). A plurality of identifying regions(58) is formed on the ribbon shaft. The ribbon motor is installed inside the casing for driving the ribbon shaft. The sensor is installed inside the casing to sense the plurality of identifying regions on the ribbon shaft. The control unit is installed inside the casing. The control unit is joined to the ribbon motor and the sensor for identifying the information of the ribbon according to the result of sensing the identifying regions.
