It is to provide a process for producing a phosphate compound capable of producing a phosphate compound excellent in the properties and the reliability, efficiently at a low cost. A first compound having a composition of M x P y O z (wherein M is at least one atom selected from Fe, Mn , Co and Ni, the valency N 1 of M satisfies +2‰¦N 1 ‰¦+4, and 0.8‰¦x/y‰¦1.2) and a second compound containing at least one atom A selected from Li, Ni and K are blended in an atomic ratio of A, M and P (A:M:P) of a:b:1 (wherein 0<a<2, and 0.8<b<1.2). The blended product of the first compound and the second compound is pulverized while mixing it, and the pulverized product is heated in an inert gas or in a reducing gas to produce a phosphate compound having a composition represented by A a M b PO c (wherein the valency of M is equal to or lower than N 1 , and c is a number which depends on the values of a and b, and the valency of M). |
