The installation has two refrigerating units (1) each including a refrigerant loop circuit (2) interconnecting a compressor (3) and an evaporator (4), and a reserve coolant tray (5) accommodating a portion of the evaporator. A coolant circulating circuit (6) circulates a coolant between the tray and a zone (7) to be cooled. A photovoltaic unit (10) supplies power to the compressor and a coolant pump (8) of each refrigerating unit. A light radiation sensor (11) controls the operation of the compressors of the units in accordance with light radiation.
