<p>OF THE DISCLOSUREThe present invention relates to a glass substrate for a magnetic recording medium, including: a pair of main surfaces; an outer peripheral surface; and an innerperipheral surface, in which the number of contaminations having a size of 0.1 to 0.3 pm, stuck to the main surfaces is 0.007/=2 or less, an amount of cerium present on an entire surface of the glass substrate for a magnetic recording medium is less than 0.004 ng/mm2, and the number of contaminations having a major axis of 1.0 pm or more, stuck to the outer peripheral surface is less than 1.2/mm2.
