摘要 <p>Provided is a novel nucleic acid molecule capable of suppressing the expression of a gene. A single-stranded nucleic acid molecule containing an expression-suppressing sequence for a target gene and a complementary sequence having a mismatch with the expression-suppressing sequence, wherein a 5'-side region (Xc), an internal region (Z) and a 3'-side region (Yc) are contained in this order from the 5'-side toward the 3'-side, the region (Z) is formed by linking an internal 5'-side region (X) to an internal 3'-side region (Y), the region (Xc) is complementary to the region (X), the region (Yc) is complementary to the region (Y), at least one of the region (Z), the region (Xc) and the region (Yc) contains the expression-suppressing sequence, a region complementary to the region containing the expression-suppressing sequence contains the complementary sequence, and a 5'-terminal nucleotide and a 3'-terminal nucleotide in the single-stranded nucleic acid molecule are not bound to each other. The single-stranded nucleic acid molecule can suppress the expression of the target gene.</p>
