<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably induce post-combustion continuing from main combustion and to activate in an early stage a HC purifying catalyst that is in an inactive state. <P>SOLUTION: While the catalyst is in an inactive state, a main injection to induce main combustion in a cylinder and a plurality of post-injections, to induce post-combustion continuing from the main combustion in the cylinder and to continue the combustion until at least a middle term of an expansion stroke, are carried out. The main injection and post-injections, including at least the first post-injection in the plurality of post-injections until a crank angle from the compression top dead center reaches a predetermined angle, are configured to inject fuel into a cavity formed on a crown surface of a piston, and the post-injections, in the plurality of post-injections after the time point when the crank angle from the compression top dead center reaches the predetermined angle, are configured to inject the fuel to the outside of the cavity. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
